The Rotary District 9800 Ride for ROCAN event this year was dedicated to the Late Yvonne Moon OAM as the driving force behind its success over the last twenty years. Twenty-seven cyclists and six support crew set off from Avington for a week of cycling in north-east Victoria ...
Weather conditions were difficult on Day 1 where we experienced strong headwinds and a 26 degree morning, followed by heavy rain and 8 degrees in the afternoon as we approached Ballarat.  In addition to the difficult weather conditions, one of our riders had a crash on the bike path resulting in a fracture to his hand and the end of his cycling participation for this year.  He did subsequently join us in Castlemaine for fellowship in the following days.  The irony wasn't lost on us that the bike path had been chosen for this busy section of road because it was meant to be safer.  It was a sobering reminder of the need for caution and safety.  Subsequent days were much kinder with sunny, clear days, light winds, beautiful sunsets, and a foggy start to the morning of the last day from Macedon.  Overall, a delightful and challenging ride with both Rotary and non-Rotary members.   Dinner with Past District Governor Grant Hocking and Melissa was a highlight.   And an excellent fundraising outcome as we have reached approx $45,000 for this year - a final tally will be provided at the Post-ride event on 8 April.
