The new Rotary year is well under way and the first Board Meeting will be held on the 24th of July. Many of the Board members are continuing in their role from last year, so we have a lot of valuable experience there. The main changes on the Board are our new Secretary, Carol Benson, who has extensive experience in this type of role, both in Rotary and her previous employment. Our new Treasurer, Don Heath, is taking on his role with enthusiasm and I’m sure with his excellent skills in maths and IT we will be in good hands. The previous Rotarians in these positions have offered to provide advice and support if necessary.
One of the important aspects of any organization is good communication and I would like to emphasize this in our club. Members have said that they would like to know what goes on at the Board, so Carol and I have agreed to disseminate this information. Also from time to time we will ask committee chairs, or a member of their committee to say a few words about their project or projects at a Rotary meeting so that we can all keep up with the many activities of our club. This information will also go into the Bulletin.
At the District level I will be attending regular breakfast meetings of our 7 cluster clubs, namely Hawthorn, Kew, Balwyn, North Balwyn, Canterbury and Camberwell which are chaired by Michael Stillwell, Assistant Governor, Community Group 2. I have already attended the first breakfast where I met the presidents of the cluster clubs and we each shared a number of our club projects with each other. I was amazed at the variety of projects we all had. The topic of the next breakfast meeting is Membership and I’m keen to learn what other clubs have to say about this.
See you at Rotary for an enjoyable evening next Tuesday the 22nd of July.
Helena Wimpole,
President
