District Governor visit - Michael Lapina’s Address to the club
On Tuesday night at our usual club meeting, we were treated to a visit by our District Governor, Michael Lapina and his son Alex. We have all known about his operatic voice and the many times he has entertained us. Another side of him is that he has been involved in the corporate sector, originally for the National Bank as an Information System Project Manager. Also, upwardly moving to higher positions in the Learning and Development division of the National Bank. Later turning his back on the corporate world to pursue a career in education. He established Musica Fabri PTY LTD and also runs the Performing Arts Department at the Saltwater P-9 College. All this was done while Michael was heavily involved in Rotary, up to now as our District Governor.

His talk was more centred around the Rotary International President, Stephanie Urchick’s theme of the Magic of Rotary. She has asked her DGs to promote this theme with 3 core values.
1. Create Membership experiences. Good to make an individual enjoy their time within Rotary with satisfaction in being involved with projects, and the emotional return one gets from being involved.
2. Heal division in the world especially by participating in projects to do good for the community benefit, by following our project’s aims on the 7 areas of focus –
• Promoting peace
• Fighting disease
• Providing clean water
• Saving mothers and children
• Supporting education
• Growing local economies
• Protecting the environment
3. Continuity – create ongoing movement in the club as in leadership positions and continuing Big Projects that mean a lot to the world, as in the” End Polio “Campaign.
Michael has previouslly spoken to our board about the Regionalisation that is going on at present. He also stressed that there is a need to promote clubs to acknowledge the good that they are doing.
