Last Tuesday we were fortunate to have one of our own in Past President Mark Howlett as our guest speaker. Mark told us of his experiences on a Rotary motorcycle tour in India recently. The tour was organised by the Rotary Club of Mysore in Southern India. It included 45 riders from 14 countries, and they travelled 1600 kilometres in 16 days. The tour started in Udaipur and travelled through Ahmedabad, Aishwarya, Vadodara, Bharuch, Pune, Kolhapur, Goa and finished in Mysore.
Some of Mark’s highlights were: Tasting real Indian food also the reverence given to cattle, particularly the need to give way to them, even on a freeway. More highlights on the next page.

- Interaction with children, particularly when they visited a school in Adgaon. They were pleased to find a Rotary wheel there on a plaque showing that the toilet block had been built by the Rotary Club of Box Hill.
- Part of the tour included Rotary Clubs along the way providing lunch or dinner. This was a great way to find out how many other Rotary clubs operate.
- Trying not to get lost or split up from the rest of the group.
Mark advised us that his best highlight was sharing the ride with 45 other Rotarians. He felt that he learnt so much from them, and is now confident that he has gained many international friends.
