Rotary District Governor Philip Archer

Our inspiring speaker for the night was District Governor Philip Archer who was able to provide a summary of the aims and achievements of the district, and provide an opportunity to meet with Glenferrie Rotarians albeit in the renewed COVID online format.

Philip Archer is a founding member of the Rotary club of Southbank, has been with Rotary for 22 years and has served in numerous leadership positions. In his other life, he is Managing Director of Archway group and has 35 years of experience in strategic management consulting, executive recruiting and executive coaching and mentoring.

Philip Archer is clearly a humble leader as he spent a good deal of time thanking and referring to the achievements of the many Rotarians who have taken leadership roles in programs.  From Glenferrie Rotary this included Mark E for his presidency, Thelma Hutchison for her work on the Rotary 100 project, Cheryl Pisterman for her work with the Rotary Foundation, Carol Benson for her tireless work over many years with Rotary, Mark Howlett for the work on RORP, Richard Blakeman for his support and work with district grants, and of course Philip Archer thanked all of Glenferrie Rotarians for their support for all programs. Philip Archer also referred to Glenferrie Rotary’s excellent work on the Farmer’s Market and Australia Day celebration.

Philip Archer delivered a very positive summary of the achievements of the district despite the COVID challenges.  Indeed he saw the benefits that lockdown had brought to us, for example by increasing our online capabilities.  The elimination of Polio is now an achievable objective with just 2 wild cases (one in Pakistan and one in Afghanistan) this past year.  Philip Archer spoke of his theme of “Rotary opens opportunities” which was well received as was the encouragement to be flexible and encouraging in admitting new members.

DG Philip encouraged us all to participate in the many available Rotary gatherings including the district conference, RI conference and the many others.

Following some challenging questions, the DG was thanked for his presentation by President Mark Ellis and all members present.
