The villagers and children of Buedu, Sierra Leone, have celebrated the handover of their new VIP latrines with a colourful march through the village and a ceremony at the Aladura Primary School.
The two toilet blocks are a gift to the children of Buedu from the Rotary Club of Glenferrie, CLUB 26021 ROTARY CLUB OF BO , Sierra Leone, and The Rotary Foundation. As part of the celebrations, each child was given a tee-shirt bearing a Water, Sanitation and Hygiene message (with thanks to the Government of Victoria and Scottish Health), and will be given two pairs of underwear each. WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene) training for the children will commence after the Christmas/New Year break.
The project has been financed through proceeds from the sale of LightWalker walking sticks, a grant from The Rotary Foundation and money raised through the Boroondara Farmers Market.
