Members will be interested to know that the Boroondara Cares Foundation has just been granted $44,500 for its Education CHANCES Program by the Baker Foundation. This is to act as a replacement for the funding BCF would have received from the hard work put in by members to make the Boroondara Farmers Market the success that, up to date, it has been whilst we are in the midst of our Public Health Crisis. The Baker Foundation grant, also has an allowance for donations we don't expect to receive from our other member clubs because of the forced cessation of their fund-raising activities.Without this grant, BCF would have been forced to cut the number of scholarships we can offer to students from proven low income backgrounds from around 100 this year to around 70 for 2021. This would mean that few if any new scholarships could be awarded during a period when BCF expects a significant rise in applications for new scholarships due to substantial parental loss of income, that may extend for some time.
