Official Visit of the District Governor
Presidential Musings for the Week
On June 1st, we conducted our last Board meeting for this year including the new members of the Board for next year.  There have been a few changes since I detailed the new committee at our Annual General Meeting last November.  I am very happy with the line up.

As James Hillman, the American Psychologist once wrote “We need a fresh way of looking at the importance of our lives.”   We can view this comment that a new Board will assist our club with new fresh ideas and out of lockdown, we may be able to achieve more for the community than this year ending.

So, at the Board Meeting, all the areas of focus were able to update very much like at the Forum night a couple of weeks ago – can you remember face to face meetings and their impact!!!

Family Fun Day Planned for Grand Opening at Yarra Bank Reserve
Fun for all the family is planned for the grand opening of the Rotary 100 Playground at Yarra Bank Reserve on August 8th, with children's entertainment, food and drink and, lots of music on the way to make it a sparkling day.

Acknowledging the significance of the Yarra bank area to First Nations peoples, a smoking ceremony and welcome to country is planned, to be offered by the traditional owners of the land, the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin nation.

The Playground Opening, featuring the unique Rotary interactive play sculpture, will begin a series of events in Boroondara aimed at raising the profile of Rotary, attracting new members and celebrating 100 years to date of Doing Good in the World. It is hoped that every Rotarian will bring their families and friends, and especially the little ones, to experience the Grand Opening and the playground. So be sure to spread the word!

The playground will be opened by the Mayor of Boroondara, Cr. Garry Thompson, who will be joined by DGE Dale Hoy in a ceremony heralding a celebration of the achievements of the past century, and welcoming the start of the next 100 years. Register Now for a 2021 Rotary Foundation Grants Management Seminar
All club Avenue of Service directors are encouraged to attend one of two District Grants Management Seminars, scheduled for later this month. Foundation grants are an excellent way to secure extra funding for club service projects, either in Australia or overseas, and attendance at a seminar is a prerequisite for club qualification.

This year's Grant Seminars will be held online with a choice of two optional dates. Each session will run for 90 minutes.

For the club to qualify for a Rotary Foundation Grant in the 2021-2022 Rotary year, at least one club member must attend one of the two sessions.

Thursday June 17 at 7.30pm  or Sunday June 20 at 3.00pm

The Australian Honours & Awards System
Know someone who constantly puts others ahead of themselves. Ordinary people doing extraordinary things. Sound familiar. Sound like a Rotarian you know. How about you nominate them for an Australian Honor!

“Service Above Self” is second nature to Rotarians.  But we all know fellow members who go “above and beyond” in service to their community and indeed our nation. They seek no reward beyond mere satisfaction that they have made a difference in the lives of individuals or society in general. We recognize their commitment by Clubs contributing to our Rotary Foundation or by a District or sometimes a Rotary International Award.

1. Why is it unwise to share your secrets with a clock? Well, time will tell.

2. When I told my contractor I didn’t want carpeted steps, they gave me a blank stare.

3. Bono and The Edge walk into a Dublin bar and the bartender says, “Oh no, not U2 again.”

4. Prison is just one word to you, but for some people, it’s a whole sentence.

5. Scientists got together to study the effects of alcohol on a person’s walk, and the result was staggering.

6. I’m trying to organize a hide and seek tournament, but good players are really hard to find.

Is it the Truth?

Is it Fair to all concerned?
