President's Message

The turnover cycle in Rotary leadership positions has long represented a significant challenge for Rotary clubs implementing their long-term strategies. Bringing together current and incoming leaders of the club encourages continuity in planning and shows that collaboration and communication are the keys to maintaining a future strategic perspective. That’s why research shows us that clubs with strategic plans are more successful in engaging their members.

Speaker Ros McMaster Explains RIMERN

Last Tuesday night 30 members and their guests were treated to a very detailed presentation (including an excellent PowerPoint) on the Rotary Inner Melbourne Emergency Relief Network, or, in Rotary parlance, RIMERN.

We were fortunate to have Ros McMaster, the supervisor of the RIMERN Brunswick warehouse, to update us on the rapid expansion of every aspect of this worthy and essential – but complex – Rotary project. In the first six months of 2023, the number of orders fulfilled already equals the total number in calendar 2022.

Environmental Sustainability - 7th Pillar of Rotary

The 7th pillar of Rotary, Environmental Sustainability, was well represented at events prior to and during RICON.

Prior to the convention opening, the Environmental Sustainability Rotary Action Group (ESRAG) launched a Green Events handbook; held an action summit; and led a number of tours highlighting environmental issues. During the convention, breakout sessions included an ESRAG lunchtime forum; and a diverse menu of breakout sessions: ‘Adopt a River’, ‘End Plastic Soup’, and ‘A Plant-rich Diet: Delicious Climate Action’.
