President's Message

Welcome all to my first bulletin of the Rotary year.

My year started a month before as President-elect. After a weekend with other presidents-elect in Bendigo we covered such topics as how to engage current club members and how do we grow membership, in particular younger members. 

A month later I had a flurry of activity where the cluster presidents-elect went to each other’s Changeovers. I went to the Rotary Club of Kew, Hawthorn and Canterbury’s Changeovers. We, and a few other cluster clubs such as Rotary Camberwell and Balwyn, have formed a WhatsApp group and already there is collaboration happening.

Our final Dinner Meeting for the 2025/2026 Rotary Year was on 30th June 2026. It was a pleasure to welcome, as a guest, the outgoing District Governor, Peter Shepheard and also dinner meeting speaker Rod Patel who was scheduled to deliver his Member Behind the Badge presentation.

DG Peter congratulated the club for its many activities during the previous year and presented two Certificates of Acknowledgement for generous contributions made to the Rotary Foundation. These were accepted on behalf of the club by Foundation Director, Joanne Shentu.

Progress Report from the Alternative Income Committee

While the Farmer’s Market is our primary income source and into which members put much effort, in 2025 it was decided that we should be considering other sources of major income as a back up or addition. A committee was formed which Mark Howlett chairs and which has been ticking along since then. Member for Kooyong's Tribute to Rotary in Parliament

The Member for Kooyong Dr Monique Ryan MP has praised the work of Rotary in the Federal Parliament, following her attendance at the District 9800 Changeover in June. Graffiti: the good, the bad and the ugly.
Sabina Andron is a Research Fellow in the School of Culture and Communication, University of Melbourne. She works on visual aspects of public and urban spaces, graffiti and public signage. She will challenge our thinking about graffiti and street art with a critical focus on the Australian graffiti removal industry. She has researched public images for several years with a particular interest in visual governance in the city to achieve urban visual justice.
Her presentation will be stimulating, provoke discussion and challenge our thinking about management of graffiti.
