Presidential Musings for the Week

“If you can't swallow your pride, you can't lead. Even the highest mountain had animals that step on it.”  Quote by Jack Weatherford who was is the former DeWitt Wallace Professor of anthropology at Macalester College in Minnesota. He is best known for his 2004 book, Genghis Khan and the Making of the Modern World.  How that leads into my musings I will leave that up to you!!

I do have a certain pride though in my club for thriving instead of going into a meltdown in face of the COVID pandemic.  The burden of leadership is so much less here since club members are very willing to jump in and fill the void if necessary.

Ted Baillieu on Being Flexible to Change
One of Rotary’s challenges in increasing its membership is the remark: “I’m too busy to join Rotary!”

Ted Baillieu would disagree.  He joined Rotary Glenferrie on the same day he was appointed Opposition Leader in Victoria in mid-2006.  Perhaps he set the trend (now formalised) whereby clubs offer flexibility for busy people, being flexible around members visiting less frequently, but valuing their contributions on projects about which they are passionate.

Rotary Doll Lovers Fellowship

The Rotary Doll Lovers Fellowship is a worldwide group of Rotarians who share a common interest in dolls as a symbol of international culture and friendship.

The Fellowship came about as a result of the establishment of a Doll Museum in the city of Rajkot, Gujarat State, India in 2004. The idea for this Museum started some three years earlier when a request was made from the Rotary Club of Rajkot Midtown to Rotarians worldwide. The Museum required dolls from Rotarians that were handmade and symbolised the culture and traditions of the country in which they were made. The main purpose of the Doll Museum was to enable disadvantaged children and others to attend the Museum, enjoy the dolls and through them learn about other parts of the world, their people’s culture and customs.
