Presidential Musings for the Week
Come gather 'round, people
Wherever you roam
And admit that the waters
Around you have grown
And accept it that soon
You'll be drenched to the bone
If your time to you is worth savin'
And you better start swimmin'
Or you'll sink like a stone
For the times they are a-changin'

How very apt for Bob’s legacy to hit the papers again with his recent sale of his 600 songs.
Speaker - Bronwyn Pike

Our speaker at last Tuesday’s meeting was Bronwyn Pike – a name familiar to most Victorian’s.

Bronwyn’s early years shaped her lifelong’s work and passions for public policy and social justice.  Bronwyn was born in Tanunda SA and raised in a devout Methodist family where a lot of family life revolved around the Church.   Growing up Bronwyn spent 7 years living in Malaysia where her father was a teacher under the Columbo Plan.

Rotary Christmas Get Together
Our Christmas Party this year will be a party with a difference, outdoors in a special place that looms large in the club's plans in 2001. Bring family and friends and a picnic or something for the BBQ, for the Annual Christmas Party of the Rotary Club of Glenferrie, this year at Yarra Bank Reserve, Hawthorn. Yarra Bank Reserve is the site of the new Rotary 100 Interactive Play Sculpture that will be built as part of a playground replacement project for the park in 2001. It will be the scene of much derry-do next year, so let's start it all off together. See you for some Christmas fun!
ps. please bring chairs, plates etc. for your picnic.
Membership..The Gift that Keeps on Going
In my Rotary club, we often hear that growing membership is everyone’s responsibility, which gave me cause to reflect on this potentially wonderful gift.

Recently I needed to source an IT person to sort out some computer issues. I did the usual thing by speaking to three different providers and requesting quotations.  I then made a choice, but it was when I thought about why I made my choice that I realised something, as I certainly didn’t choose on price!  Rather, I went with the person who had impressed me from the outset as someone with whom I felt most comfortable, could trust and with whom I knew I could work well—someone who had values similar to mine, and, in fact, similar to Rotary’s.
Rotary Fellowship of Gin
Whilst in its early days, having been established in April this year, the Rotary Fellowship of Gin already has more than 600 members worldwide dedicated to promoting gin as an opportunity for fellowship.
All varieties of gin start life as a neutral spirit, which can be made from grain, wheat, barley or even rice, grapes, corn or beetroot.  From the base distillation of the spirit the vital ingredient that provides its flavor is the juniper berry.  Other spices are added to create a unique taste and style.
