Jaswinder, as a very active leader in the rapidly growing Australian Sikh community, wears many hats or, more accurately, turbans. He is Secretary of Sikh Volunteers Australia (SVA), serves on the Sikh Interfaith Council of Victoria, speaks publicly on both the Sikh faith and the work of SVA whilst holding down his day-job as a mechanical engineer and project manager.

The Bread Run Needs You!
The Salvation Army Bread Run urgently needs new volunteers for the current roster to take us from June 10th through to the end of July.

This project calls for two volunteers to go to Bakers Delight in Riversdale Road, Camberwell, collect unsold bread which is generously donated by Bakers Delight, and deliver it the Salvation Army Camberwell.

If you can help, please sign up on the Volunteer Signup List on the club website via this link: The Salvation Army Bread Run

If you are not a club member, please email project leader Chris Raw directly. Chris will be pleased to add your name to the list.
Recognising Those Who Go the Extra Mile
In the world of Human Resources, one of the most common responses from job interviewees is that what motivates them most in the workplace is being recognised—that simple ‘thank you’ seems to go far beyond monetary reward. It’s the same in Rotary.  Whilst there will always be those who do not want recognition for the ‘above and beyond’ effort they put in, for many others, gratitude is incredibly motivating, especially when it is unanticipated.

Certainly within the workplace, implementing gratitude into company culture lifts employee ‘positivity’ and creates a flow on effect to others.

Timor Adventures
David and Shirley Carlos spent the 30 years working in community development, education and social research both in Australia and in the USA. In 1998 they formed a connection with the Timorese community living in Melbourne as refugees. In 2008 they began visiting the country and after they returned they wanted to do something useful and sustainable to support development, particularly in the districts, the areas outside of Dili. Their research showed that tourism has the capacity to bring new money to the country, touring in the districts would be an  effective way to distribute that money across the country and  develop new skills and livelihoods for the many young people in Timor-Leste. In 2020 Timor Adventures celebrated 10 years of operations.
