This coming Tuesday we are excited to be hearing from the member behind the badge, Maria Pantling. I have advance notice that it will be very entertaining!

Also, coming up on Nov 21 is an excursion to RIMERN followed by dinner at the local RSL.

And while filling in key dates in your diary, don’t forget to lock in Dec 19 for our xmas party at Kooyong with entertainment, carols singing and much more.

Friday Dinner at the Bendigo Conference

Will you be attending the District 9800 Conference in Bendigo next April?

If so, you may like to join your fellow Glenferrie Rotarians, along with some partners, for dinner on the Friday night.

We have booked The Rifle Brigade Hotel. A historic building with charming ambience, as well as extensive food and drinks menus. No set dinner for this occasion; just make your own choice on the evening. The hotel is conveniently located in View Street, almost opposite the Bendigo Art Gallery.

Club Meeting Report 17th October - Speaker Kevin Purvis
Thanks for your welcome and hospitality. The Compassionate Friends Victoria is a bereavement support organization, for parents, grandparents and siblings. I will be talking about bereavement tonight – a bit about my own story, some information about what Compassionate Friends does, and some hints about what you can do. The harsh reality of life is that we will all be exposed to bereavement experiences at some point.

Some of them are the ones we might expect – ageing parents or siblings, their passing is part of the natural course of life. Some bereavements however are unexpected, shocking, traumatic experiences.

Final End Polio Walk - October - Studley Park

The strategy to eradicate polio is based on preventing infection by immunizing every child until transmission stops and the world is polio-free.

This October we are asking you to Walk With Us for those who can’t. We are challenging you to walk, run or roll 10, 20 or 50km throughout the month and raise vital funds that will help eradicate and prepare us for a Polio free world.

Join us for the final walk at the beautiful location of Studley Park in Kew. There will be two walks. October 29th 10:00AM - 12:00PM.

To register to walk in the month of October, go to: http://rotarywalkwithus.org/

RIMERN  -  A Touching Story
I thought your Glenferrie team would be interested to know that yesterday an older lady with severe anxiety (due in part to having resided in a dangerous rooming house for 12 months, where a man had threatened to burn her alive!) selected the goods shown here for her new, secure home. As you can see the cornerstone piece is the green sofa you all assembled! She left the warehouse thrilled to bits! Thanks team!

My parents were born in Ukraine, I am the oldest of 4 children and was born in Poland. My next brother was born in Czechoslovakia and the younger twin brothers were born in Germany - in an American refugee camp where we spent four years waiting to be processed for immigration to a new life in Australia.

We are Ukrainians who fled Russian invasion twice and are grateful to this wonderful country of Australia which provided us with safety, education and the promise of a future.
