President's Message
We had another great week in Rotary. Our meeting on 11 March had two great young speakers Laura Coburn and Hyuga Nashimoru speaking about their peace initiatives. While numbers were a bit down, we still had a very solid event with great questions following the terrific speeches. We also had a President’s lunch on 18 March and whilst the conversation was not as uplifting, it was most entertaining.

Whilst fellowship is the First Object of Rotary, and an integral part of Rotary membership,  service to the community is also a necessary part of the Rotary experience. If you feel that your energies and talents are not being fully utilised, rest assured that there are a number of projects that could use your services. Alternatively, if you have been on a committee for a number of years and are feeling a little stale, why not join another committee and get a fresh perspective on Rotary life. Do not hesitate to reach out to me or the directors for guidance.

Sustainability Festival Draws Crowds to the Boroondara Farmers Market
There was much hustle and bustle and fun and laughter at Patterson Reserve on Saturday March 15th, 2025, as the City of Boroondara Sustainability Festival combined with the Boroondara Farmers Market to draw large crowds to Patterson Reserve. From worm farms to solar panels, there was much of interest for adults and children alike. Stallholder numbers were down as a number of vendors were discouraged by the forecast hot weather, but those who braved the heat did a brisk trade. Visitors to the market numbered well over 1,000, the best market numbers for some time and hopefully a portent of things to come. Click on 'Read More...' below to see more photos.

Rotary Glenferrie Records and Memorabilia
No doubt everyone is aware that 2025 is the 50th year since the charter of the Rotary Club of Glenferrie in October 1975. At its recent meeting the Board decided that we should collect and safely store items of interest and historic significance. Such memorabilia would include various documents, photos, flags, badges, etc. If members have items of interest that they do not require please make contact with the Club Service Committee so that an inventory can be compiled and storage arranged.

What the..?
A passenger sitting in the back seat of the taxi tapped the driver on the shoulder to ask him a question.

The driver screamed, lost control of the car, nearly hit a bus, went up on the footpath, and screeched to a halt only centimetres from a shop window.

For a few seconds, everything was quiet in the cab. Then the driver said, "Listen, mate, don't ever do that again will yer. You scared the living daylights out of me!"

The passenger apologised. "Sorry matey! I didn't realise a little tap would scare you so much."

The driver replied, "No worries, it's not really your fault. Today is my first day as a cab driver and for a minute I forgot where I was. I've been driving a funeral van for the past 25 years."
