
The Club Board met on 27 November to review a wide range of club matters, with several key motions carried. The Club agreed to sponsor Mark Ellis and Thelma Hutchison with $500 each for their ROCAN Ride to Convention fundraiser supporting ovarian cancer research. The resignation of Jerzy Ordega was accepted with regret, and Leave of Absence was approved for Peter Moore until February 28th.
Attendance figures for recent meetings prompted a frank discussion about ongoing low participation by some members. A series of steps will be taken, including follow-up by mentors, continued contact by the Almoner, and direct conversations with members whose meeting attendance falls below the required 50 percent.
Treasurer Thelma reported that the 2024–25 financial statements have been completed and independently reviewed. Several motions were passed to strengthen financial processes, including updated signatory requirements for the Farmers’ Market account, transferring residual Westpac funds to Bendigo Bank, and establishing a policy for retained earnings.
Farmers Market figures for 15 November showed 868 patrons and 41 stallholders, and the market on November trialled a Sustainability theme. New Westpac POS technology has also been installed on three club mobile phones.
Reports from service committees highlighted a busy period ahead: Salvation Army Christmas hampers, a Backyard Blitz, recycling initiatives at the Farmers’ Market, and preparations for two club BBQs early next year. Rotary Foundation activities included the successful Peace Pole dedication at Loreto Mandeville Hall and member attendance at the Paul Harris Breakfast.
International Service confirmed the transfer of $15,000 to the Rotary Club of Bo for the water reticulation project in Sierra Leone and approved $3,600 in support for the Vo Thanh community in Vietnam.
The Youth & Vocational committee will sponsor students to NYSF and RYLA, and discussions are underway to establish an Interact Club at Loreto.
