Second Bite

Sep 27, 2022 6:30 PM

SecondBite began in 2005 with one couple – Ian and Simone Carson. Gathering a committed group of friends, they would visit market stalls in Melbourne at the end of a day, collect surplus food, and drop it to a local charity that ran a food program. In 2011, Coles and SecondBite formed a national partnership, which led to a rapid expansion of our organisation’s operational scale and reach.

Julie Dwyer is the new head of marketing and communications at SecondBite and came to know the organisation after doing regular volunteer market collections with her family several years ago. Julie has worked in marketing,  communications and stakeholder management roles across the health, NPO, education and manufacturing sectors.

The Pulim Win Project: Breathing Life Into Newborns

Oct 11, 2022 6:30 PM

It is a joint Rotary partnership with the Australian College of Neonatal Nurses. Rennie is a member of the Lower Blue Mountains Rotary Club and his wife Robyn is Head of the Neonatal section at Westmead Hospital in Western Sydney.

Nurses from Westmead Hospital have been going to PNG at their own expense to train locals in the villages on how to resuscitate newborns.  Most babies are born in villages where there is little medical staff and many babies do not survive. PNG have highest rate of infant mortality in the world.

Due to COVID in the last couple of years, the nurses from Australia have not been able to return to PNG.  Rennie and Robyn plan to apply for District Grants and maybe Foundation Grants this FY with the view to returning to PNG in September next year.

Robyn and Rennie will speak about this incredible work they have been doing helping to save the lives of newborns.

As they live in NSW the presentation will be via zoom.

The zoom presentation is planned to start at 7:30pm – the link is below.

Save the date for the 2022 Zone 8 Rotary and Rotaract ‘Better Together’ Conference in Canberra ACT.

With borders opening and COVID-19 restrictions easing, now is the time to begin planning your attendance at “Better Together” Zone 8 Conference in Canberra.

From Friday 28 October to Sunday 30 October, the conference will celebrate the very best of Rotary and Rotaract.

We have experienced a lot over the last three years since we met in person and now is the time to reflect and to look at where we are heading. The future is looking hopeful and together we can share what we have learnt and to showcase the impact of our projects.

It is time to catch up with friends and renew those connections that make our organisation a truly unique one – friendships are for life.

The stories of Rotaractors and Rotarians helping locally and internationally need to be heard and this is the time to tell them. We have a diverse and exciting lineup of speakers to entertain, engage and inform you.

We want all Rotarians and Rotaractors across the Zone to know that this is an event not to be missed - because we really are Better Together!

SecondBite

Nov 29, 2022 6:30 PM

SecondBite is one of Australia’s largest food rescue organisations. The organisation works with food growers, manufacturers and retailers to rescue surplus and unsold edible food that would otherwise be wasted in landfill, and distribute it to local charities and non-profits around Australia. These charities run food programs to support people in need in their communities

Emma Watts joined SecondBite as Director of Fundraising in July 2022, having held leadership roles within the NPO, government and corporate arenas, heading up fundraising, communications and stakeholder engagement in the conservation, social services, and animal welfare sectors.
