Each year, Rotary through The Rotary Foundation awards up to 130 fully funded fellowships for dedicated leaders from around the world to study at one of our peace centres. Laura and Hyuga will speak about the program, what it is, its value and their experiences as International Peace Fellows.

Trevor Moyle is going to speak about the two foundations in Nepal: the " Community Leadership Nepal Foundation" and the "Smile-high Foundation", which he is co-founder and chair for many years.

Past President Taplima Muana, together with Club President Daniel Sama and members of the Rotary Club of Bo have been strong partners with Rotary Glenferrie in building two toilet blocks for the students at the Aladura Primary School in Buedu, Sierra Leone, and delivering tailored WASH training. This joint meeting will talk about how this project became such a success, and what plans there may be for future collaboration.

Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) is an intensive leadership experience organised by Rotary clubs and districts where attendees develop their skills as a leader while having fun and making connections. Sarah Mapleson was sponsored by the Rotary Club of Glenferrie to attend the most recent RYLA. Come along and hear first hand about Sarah's RLA experience.

Jazmine Elmolla is a lawyer with a particular interest in migration, and in ensuring that migrants have access to legal services and a fair and just migration system. Jazmine has just returned from 2 years in London, where she worked with the International Organisation for Migration in Iraq and the UK Government. She is excited to start a new role with Victoria Legal Aid in Melbourne in their migration law programme. Jazmine studied a Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Laws (First Class Honours) at Monash University and is keen to further her education to increase the tools available to her in working towards increasing access to justice. She has recently commenced a Master of Science in International Human Rights Law at Oxford University over two years, supported by a multi-club grant scholarship part funded by The Rotary Foundation.

Ray Isaac joined the Rotary Club of Glenferrie in November last year, right before we wrapped things up for the Christmas break—so it’s been a bit of a slow start. But now’s the perfect time to really welcome him properly.

Debbie Shiell, CEO of Ovarian Cancer Australia, will share key insights into ovarian cancer—including current statistics, risk factors, ongoing research, and clinical trials. Debbie will also highlight the vital role that fundraising, including support from ROCAN and other sources, plays in advancing treatment and support for those affected.

John Boyle, Rotarian from RC Altona, lawyer, and a passionate cycling participant in the ROCAN Charity Ride for the past 20 years. John will take us behind the scenes of this long-running initiative—sharing its origins, growth, impact, and the challenges of organizing such a significant fundraising event year after year.

Dr Shurong Lu is a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Melbourne. She is also a post doctoral Fellow funded by Australian Rotary Health. Shurong’s research focuses on population mental health promotion, particularly for people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. Today, Shurong is going to share her research on child mental health among multicultural parents.

Amelia joined the Rotary Club of Glenferrie just eighteen months ago, and in that short time, she’s become a familiar and valued member of our club—known to us already as the impressive candidate for Kooyong in the recent Federal election. Despite a demanding schedule, Amelia has generously made time to contribute enthusiastically to club activities, especially the Farmers Market.

But there's much more to Amelia than what we saw on the campaign trail—and that's exactly what our Member Behind the Badge evenings are all about: discovering the stories, passions, and experiences that shape our fellow Rotarians.

At a special Partners' Night, Glenis Heath — well known to members as the wife of Past President Don Heath — will share her insights into the science of food, drawn from a distinguished career as an educator and author. Nationally recognised in the field of Home Economics and Food Studies, Glenis has taught in both country and city schools, including long tenures at St Michael's Grammar and Shelford Girls’ Grammar. A Life Member and former President of Home Economics Victoria, she has also contributed extensively to VCE curriculum development and teacher training. Glenis is the co-author of 21 textbooks and an annual VCE Food Studies guide, published by leading educational publishers over the past 25 years.

With over 20 years' experience, Associate Professor Paul Gow is a leading specialist in liver disease and gastroenterology. Based at the Austin Hospital and in private practice, he combines clinical expertise with a strong research background, having published over 170 peer-reviewed articles. Internationally trained and highly respected, he is also the author of Liver Better Life, a practical guide to improving liver health. Paul is dedicated to delivering expert, compassionate care and helping patients take control of their liver health.

For teams of Year 11-12 students, the Model United Nations Assembly (MUNA) is a one day event that encourages participants to learn about other nations, and to understand and appreciate the workings of the United Nations (UN) while they develop debating skills and gain self-confidence in public speaking. This year a team of two students from Loreto Mandeville Hall in Toorak were sponsored to attend the MUNU event in May this year, Katerina Atsis and Olivia Wei. Come along and hear first hand about how they fared, and what they gained from their personal MUNA experience.

A lifelong Albert Park local and founding member of VRFish, Bob Pearce has turned his passion for fishing and the marine environment into action. Through the Albert Park Yachting and Angling Club, Bob has spent more than a decade leading shellfish reef restoration efforts in Port Phillip Bay, helping to bring back vital habitat and improve fishing for all Victorians.
